Terrific timing! I just sent out my first email promo today and followed 98% percent of what she talked about here exactly! Of course it helped I had the services of her compatriots to do so, I didn’t put as much emphasis and thought into my subject line or Call to action. Next round I will. Thanks for this ASMP!!!!
I would hope those serious photographers would consult an advertising agency, not just freelance designers or marketers.
I’m an Art Director for an Ad Agency. We get tons of this direct mail. A little advice …don’t send standard postcards. Period.
Be more creative. Maybe stop sending postcards all together.
Random quick idea…
Perhaps a disposable camera, tagged with your business card and a line that says something like, “In the even you don’t have the budget for my services, I went ahead and saved you a trip to Walmart.”
