Ballot Statement: I believe the ASMP has reached new heights during the past several years, offering more value to our members and enjoying new levels of leadership within the industry. There’s a wonderful team of dedicated individuals — board members and staff — currently leading the Society, and I’m proud to have been a part of this group over the last three years.
During my current tenure on the board, I shepherded the creation of a new membership category — the Merit Membership — designed to help the Society reach out to the future generation of industry leaders identified with the help of our partners. Recipients include participants in the elite Eddie Adams Workshop, the PDN 30, military photographers attending the prestigious photojournalism program at Syracuse, and others. The outreach has helped expose these young talents to the importance of the Society, increased partner relationships, and helped educate us about the needs and expectations of this future generation of leaders.
I helped foster the creation of the Contracts Advocacy committee, working to continue the Society’s strong history of advocacy for fair treatment of photographers and respect for their rights, and I chair the New Media Study Group that helped guide the Society into the worlds of Twitter, Facebook, and Linked-In.
I chair the Find A Photographer Oversight committee, working to improve the system and better promote the resource to the art buying community. Recent efforts have yielded increased image display size, larger portfolios, and a significantly increased budget for our promotional efforts. FAP is regarded by our members as one of the premiere benefits of General membership, and I’m committed to continuing to improve and promote it.
I came to the ASMP National Board after serving for seven years on the board of EP (Editorial Photographers). My respect for both organizations informs my commitment to encourage cooperation among our sister organizations.
I know from experience that the organizations share much in common, and our efforts are often more rewarding when we recognize these shared bonds.
I remain committed to investing another three years of my energy to help move the Society further still, so I respectfully ask for your vote.
